Srinagar, Oct 2 (KNO): The Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2026 began at the Gindun Sports Complex in Rajbagh on Thursday, with 23 matches played on the opening day of the three-day event. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that 23 matches were played on the opening day, including 15 singles matches in the first round and eight matches in the second round. Haider Hussain, Vikrant C, Javaid Bhat, Hardeep Singh, Deepak Singh, Gurmit Singh, Shubhkarman Singh and defending champion Inayat Jehangir qualified for the quarterfinals of the singles event. The spokesperson said the doubles event will begin tomorrow, with 18 teams divided into four groups vying for a place in the last eight. The group stages will be played in a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. “A total of 31 players are taking part in the singles event, while 36 players will compete in the doubles event. The championship is being organised by the District Lawn Tennis Association in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association and supported by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council,” he said—(KNO)
